Even if you didn’t allow it, it still appears on the right side of your screen as a red stripe with “Get Notifications” written all over it.
If you saw all that – congratulations, you have experienced live website push notification.
What is a Website Push Notification
A website push notification is a message that pops up on a desktop or laptop computer. Notification publishers can send them at any time; users don’t have to have their internet browsers opened to receive them.
To be allowed to send website push notifications to your visitors they must explicitly give permission to you in order to receive them. When they do, they become some sort of “subscribers” although you don’t have any contact or other info about them.
Most website push notifications appear on Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari, but they can even appear on Opera and Microsoft Edge (Internet Explorer) browsers.
How do Website Push Notifications work
To be able to send website push notification you must use some website push notification service (more on services and tools below). Although the user interface or naming of certain things in those push notification providers might differ, the process in all of them is the same.
The first step is always getting user’s approval – Whenever a visitor comes to your website they will be presented with an “opt-in” push notification banner (0r modal box), where they will need to click on the “Allow” button in order to receive push notifications from you / your website.
Send push notifications to your subscribers – As soon as you have their permission you can send them push notifications anytime you want. Eash website push notification needs to have a short description text, image and an url / link. When a user clicks on your push notification, he/she will be taken to the link you’ve inserted.
